Subject: Welcome Back to Strasburg C-3 School for the 2024-2025 Academic Year!

Dear Strasburg C-3 Families,

As we gear up for the upcoming academic year, I am filled with excitement and anticipation. I hope this letter finds you well and that you have had a fantastic summer break. I want to share some important information and updates as we prepare for the upcoming academic year.

First and foremost, I am thrilled to welcome all our students back to Strasburg C-3 on August 20, 2024. I am eager to hear about their summer adventures and see their smiling faces again.

Our online student enrollment, a convenient and user-friendly process, will run from July 15, 2024, until August 15, 2024. The school will be open on August 5th, August 6th, and August 7th between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. for new student enrollment or those needing computer access. Instructions for online enrollment can be found on the district website under the Enrollment heading under the Parent-Student Resources tab. We've made this process as easy as possible for your convenience.

One notable change this year involves adjustments to our school starting and ending times. This year, the doors will open at 7:40 AM, with school officially commencing at 8:00 AM, school will be dismissed at 3:35 PM daily.

Middle school students participating in athletics at Pleasant Hill (football, track, and wrestling) can be checked out by parents at 2:45, and middle school students participating in athletics at Kingsville (volleyball, basketball, and cross country) can be checked out at 3:10 for practices. Students' schedules have been adjusted, and they will only miss WIN time (RTI/Study Hall) for athletic participation. Athletic participation also does not count against student attendance. Transportation to and from Kingsville and Pleasant Hill for athletic participation will not be provided by the district and will be the responsibility of the parents/guardians.

There will be a slight increase in food service prices for the upcoming school year. Here's the breakdown:

  • Student breakfast will cost $1.70, up from $1.60.

  • Student lunches will cost $2.30, up from $2.20.

  • A carton of milk purchased separately will cost $0.50, up from $0.45.

  • Students who purchase a second entree will pay $1.50, up from $1.45.

We are also excited to introduce new options for our 7th and 8th-grade students regarding their elective courses. Starting this year, 7th and 8th graders will no longer be required to take music classes. Instead, they will have the opportunity to enroll in choir if they choose. Choir (grades 7 & 8) and Band (grades 6-8) will be elective options available during online enrollment. 6th-grade students will still be required to take a music class.  7th and 8th-grade students will only perform in our two concerts if they are enrolled in band or choir.

Additionally, we are excited to invite you to our Open House on August 14th from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. This event provides an excellent opportunity for parents to meet our faculty and staff, deliver school supplies to student's classrooms, tour the school facilities, and learn more about our academic programs and activities. We encourage all parents to attend and actively participate in this event.

During Open House, parents can deposit money in their student’s lunch accounts and visit with ECCO Ride to discuss student transportation. Students in grades 3-8 will also have the opportunity to pay their technology insurance fee. This fee, which will be on a sliding scale, aims to ensure the continued availability and maintenance of technology resources for our students. Additionally, students in grades 3-8 will need to purchase a $5 planner at Open House. Planners will be distributed to students on the first day of school, and Chromebooks will be handed out to those who have paid their insurance fees.  If you have any technology-related questions, please contact Laura Mooney.  Students who purchased a yearbook at the end of the 23-24 school year will be sent home with their yearbooks during the first week of school.

Over the summer, our dedicated custodial staff, Agnus, Jacob, and Samantha, have been working hard to make improvements to the building. They have been doing deep cleaning, painting, floor stripping, and general repairs to ensure a safe and pleasant learning environment for our students. Additionally, we are nearing completion of Phase III of our bond issue projects, which include numerous upgrades and additions to various areas of the school. These improvements encompass a new gym ceiling, fresh gym paint, scoreboard improvements, and a new gym floor. Tuckpointing of the exterior gym masonry walls was completed as well.  The kitchen was remodeled with new epoxy flooring, paint, and a stainless-steel working cabinet. The old entryway received new tile and rubber step treads on the steps and ramp. Lastly, all internal district doors were re-keyed to add additional safety and security. We are immensely grateful for your continued support, as these much-needed changes would not have been possible without your assistance.

We are excited to introduce some new faces to our school community. Chuck Cole will be our new middle school math teacher, and Ms. Becca Campbell will be our new vocal and instrumental music teacher. A new addition to our district is a full-time principal. Mr. Harrison Campbell (unrelated to Ms. Campbell) will be our new principal. If you have concerns about students or staff, please contact Mr. Campbell moving forward.  Dr. Mayfield will be moving into a full-time superintendent position this school year, turning all building-level principal duties over to Mr. Campbell. Please stop in and welcome our new staff members to Strasburg during Open House.

Lastly, important calendar dates and district information can be found on the district website. The website will be the primary form of district communication as we strive to enhance communication. Please download the district app and sign up for notifications to stay updated on the latest news and events.

Sincerely,

Dr. Chrystal Mayfield
