May 20, 2024
As we approach the end of another academic year, we reflect on the progress, achievements, and challenges that have shaped our school community. We are immensely proud of the growth and resilience our students, teachers, and staff demonstrated throughout the year.
As we look ahead to the 2024-2025 academic year, we are excited to announce several changes and updates that will continue to enhance our student's educational experience and foster greater engagement with our school community.
First and foremost, we want to highlight the online enrollment process for the upcoming academic year. To streamline the enrollment process and ensure convenience for parents, online enrollment will be open from July 15 through August 9. We encourage all parents to take advantage of this opportunity to secure their child's enrollment for the upcoming year.
We understand that not all families may have access to the necessary technology for online enrollment. Therefore, our office will be open on August 5th, 6th, and 7th from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, where parents are welcome to come in and use one of our devices for registration purposes.
One notable change involves adjustments to our school starting and ending times. Next year, the doors will open at 7:40 AM, with school officially commencing at 8:00 AM, school will be dismissed at 3:35 PM. These adjustments will optimize our school day schedule and better accommodate the needs of all of our students and families.
Middle school students participating in athletics at Pleasant Hill (football, track, and wrestling) will be dismissed at 2:45. Middle school students participating in athletics at Kingsville (volleyball, basketball, and cross country) will be dismissed at 3:10 for practices. Students' schedules have been adjusted, and they will only miss WIN time (RTI/Study Hall) for athletic participation. Athletic participation also does not count against student attendance. Transportation to and from Kingsville and Pleasant Hill for athletic participation will not be provided by the district and will be the responsibility of the parents/guardians.
There will be a slight increase in food service prices for the upcoming school year. Here's the breakdown:
Student breakfast will cost $1.70, up from $1.60.
Student lunches will cost $2.30, up from $2.20.
A carton of milk purchased separately will cost $0.50, up from $0.45.
Students who purchase a second entree will pay $1.50, up from $1.45.
These changes reflect adjustments in the cost of providing these services and items. While any price increase can be notable, these seem relatively small, which may help mitigate the impact on students and families.
We are also excited to introduce new options for our 7th and 8th-grade students regarding their elective courses. Starting next year, 7th and 8th graders will no longer be required to take music classes. Instead, they will have the opportunity to enroll in choir if they choose. Choir (grades 7 & 8) and Band (grades 6-8) will be elective options available during online enrollment. 6th-grade students will still be required to take a music class. 7th and 8th-grade students will only perform in our two concerts if they are enrolled in band or choir.
Additionally, we are excited to invite you to our Open House on August 14th from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. This event provides an excellent opportunity for parents to meet our faculty and staff, deliver school supplies to student's classrooms, tour the school facilities, and learn more about our academic programs and activities. We encourage all parents to attend and actively participate in this event.
During the open house, parents can deposit money in their student’s lunch accounts and visit with ECCO Ride to discuss student transportation. Students in grades 3-8 will also have the opportunity to pay their technology insurance fee. This fee, which will be on a sliding scale, aims to ensure the continued availability and maintenance of technology resources for our students. Additionally, students in grades 3-8 will need to purchase a $5 planner at Open House. Planners will be distributed to students on the first day of school, and Chromebooks will be handed out to those who have paid their insurance fees. Students who purchased a yearbook at the end of the 23-24 school year will be sent home with students during the first week of school.
Finally, mark your calendars! The first day of school for the 2024-2025 academic year will be August 20, 2024. We are eager to welcome our students back to campus and embark on another year of learning, growth, and achievement together.
We are confident that these changes and initiatives will contribute to an enriching and rewarding experience for our students and families in the upcoming academic year. As always, we value your partnership and support in nurturing our students' academic and personal development.
Have a wonderful summer,
Dr. Chrystal Mayfield
